Moriah Plaza co-founders Tamir Chen (bass) and Moosh Lahav (keys, flute) grew up in Tel Aviv in the nineties, falling in love with the hypnotic sounds of Brazilian music, film soundtracks, elevator muzak, and even the Sheraton Moriah’s hotel pianist where Tamir’s mother worked, overlooking the Dead Sea waves.
Years later, the band was conceived in Berlin with Gretchen Schadebrodt (vocals, guitar, Chile) and Alice Moss (drums, UK), alongside collaborator Cecília Erisman (poet, singer)
Their self-titled debut album, released on Batov Records in 2023, gained critical acclaim and worldwide airplay, with support from BBC Radio 6 Music, NTS, FIP and Bandcamp Weekly. The album positioned Moriah Plaza as one of the most exciting new acts blending global pop and contemporary jazz.
With their new EP Propolis their first 7-inch release on Batov Records Moriah Plaza expand their sound with Brazilian samba, cinematic Latin jazz, and psychedelic 60s pop. Tracks like “Dizendo” and “Besos en La Playa” exude the charm of Latin cafés and romantic seaside tales, while “Dom Dom” blossoms into a soaring crescendo.
Propolis marks a new chapter for Moriah Plaza, widening their influences and redefining their genre-defying sound, always rooted in the balance between nostalgia and discovery.
